The Victorian Government is investing $14 million to expand the existing Victorian Energy Upgrades program. This means that more households, and businesses, will have access to discounted energy-efficient products and services to save on bills and reduce emissions. Every upgrade allows accredited providers to give out Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates. Each certificate represents one tonne of greenhouse gas that has been prevented from entering our atmosphere, these certificates are then sold to energy retailers.
More new activities will make it easier for households to access incentives for major appliance upgrades such as space heating and water heating, and to install smart appliances and replace gas appliances with more energy efficient alternatives.
How Does It Work?
Victorian Energy Upgrades want to make it easier and cheaper for you to make energy-efficient upgrades for your home and business. This year, the goal for energy retailers is to help cut down Victoria’s greenhouse gas emissions by 6.5 million tonnes.
The target increases each year, with the aim being 6.7 million tonnes for next year (2022).
Who Is This For?
All households and businesses can participate in the program and be eligible for incentives for energy efficient products and services.
How much can the average household save?
By participating in VEU, you can save $110 per year. This is expected to increase to between $120 and $1,100 a year under new emission reduction targets for the program for 2022-25.
